engravings made in eight hours
Developed in two tranches between 2001 and 2002, the "artist's proofs" promising artists to become engravers in only eight hours long each, in the fixed time, was willing to "confined" in the laboratory art printing Poliartstudio Cagliari to quickly acquire and experiment with printmaking techniques. Inviting artists (painters and sculptors) to wear the dress of the engraver was above all a challenge.
"The incision is looking for new recruits!" The extravagant appeal was accepted with good grace, the large group of initiates (young and old) happy to put down the brush to challenge chisel, gouges and steel tips. And it worked: it was certainly a fun preparing an intaglio plate from a sketch designed especially for the occasion.
In eight hours of laboratory, wisely led by Gianni Atzeni and in close contact with each other, we have tested engraving techniques best suited to immediately translate the individual peculiarities of expression .
be clear, the original artwork is a real discipline, it requires a control which is shown in various stages of preparation of the matrix, be it wood or metal. For this to happen necessary, by the artist, participation and above all responsibility. But even those who combines for the first time in the world of engraved signs contributes to the attempt, carried out vigorously in recent years PoliArtStudio, to return true value to the press. Perhaps the only way to save the graphic "original", which for centuries has tended to reproduce and distribute the images painted in a classical form than to the modern photographic reproduction is to restore the old flavor related to the procedure.
cards are proof once again exposed to the Space Zoom: evidence of a creative moment "casual", so short but full of purpose and good intentions; perchè quelle tecniche, dall’acquaforte al bulino, nate per la divulgazione dell’immagine artistica attraverso la stampa, spesso considerata una “sottospecie” rispetto all’unicità del dipinto, oggi hanno ancora bisogno di una nuova spinta. Soltanto con la sperimentazione l’incisione può tornare ad essere una categoria specifica nel vasto universo dell’arte; marginale, ma vera e ricca di possibilità comunicative.
